Make it short. The majority of business plans are smaller than they were in the past. It's now possible to convey all the information within 20-30 pages of text, and the appendices, which are 10 pages long which include managers' overviews, projections for the month, and other information. It's impossible to summarize a plan for that is more than 40 pages in length.

There are some exceptions in this general rule. For instance, I came across plans to open chain of coffee shops, which included photographs of the location as well as mock-ups of menus. The plan also included maps of different locations. While the plans were longer because of the illustrations however, they were extremely useful. It is possible to use product images menus, locations shots and product images along with floor plans and logos, floor plans as well as signage images, and blueprints.
